On the second last day of the Hyderabad Theatre & Short-Film Festival 2010, Expressions, a group of techies from Microsoft had performed Jhumpa Lahiri’s ‘A Temporary Matter’. Showcasing the life of working professionals where every couple is running out of time due to busy work schedules and are facing tremendous emotional stress, this play captured every such emotion. It hinted on the necessity of togetherness between couples while suggesting that the gravest punishment for any human is to be left alone. The story and enactment left the audience emotionally charged by the end.
Three short films were also screened after the play, every one of which earned great applause. The first film was ‘Rahul Calling’ which misleading pointed out the habits of today’s youngsters and how the mobile phone has off late become more than an addiction. The second movie ’Broken’ was about a guy whose heart is broken and satirically showed how he tries to repair the damage by doing anything and everything possible. The third movie was ‘A Home For Lakshmi’ that showcased how, due to the lifestyle of today’s young adults, having a child has become an issue in itself. It showed how their decision changes after the housemaid leaves her child deliberately at their home who herself turns out to be adopted by the maid.
With just a day left we are amazed to see that the festival is almost coming to a close.
