I am Sukriti Sinha, a student of Psychology, Literature and Political science from St. Francis College for Women. My passion for art and creativity has led me to venture into theatre. An artist by night and student by day, I love indulging into new forays which are creative and challenging. Theatre is a new found passion; the play, Blood Song will be my debut into theatre.
The bride is a young woman, torn between love and responsibility. Love for a man that she knows she can never have and responsibility towards her father and society to marry into a family of her stature. I feel her character is very challenging, especially for a novice like me. The bride’s character involves high emotional attunement. She lives a tragic life. Her decisions lead to life and death and she has to live with them. An interesting thing about the play is that, most of the characters are divided into 1&2, I play the bride 1. The brides take solace in each other at times when conflict and sadness are the only rays on the horizon. The bride is a wonderful character to play; a lot has to be understood about her before one can step into her shoes!
Working with Prof. David Zinder has been a great learning experience. From the day of auditions, his zeal and knowledge about theatre has excited me. I feel very lucky to be working with such an experienced director as a beginner. His technique of images, The Chekov technique on acting has helped me develop my acting skills. Every rehearsal has brought about a new understanding of the play, and this short period of time working with him is infused with learning. The most interesting part about rehearsals is that he is always ready with a little anecdote or a story that perks up the entire session. His patience with the actors is commendable. It has been a wonderful opportunity to develop as an actor. The play is a complicated adaptation, the characters and time shifts are challenging but with and wonderful team and an amazing director like Mr. Zinder, it’s been an amazing journey.
