About having a large girls to boys ratio in the workshops, Rathna Shekar commented, “Girls are great. I like girls. They are better people, better actors and better at just about everything. They follow instructions, most of them are punctual and take their work seriously.” Of course, it’s a generalization (because, look at me). But he argued that it holds true for most girls.
After the recent media …umm what do we call it…attention on women and their rights and videos and programs and comments from politicians…one day I shouted (out of turn) “We won’t accept this terrorism. Because that’s what it is. Terrorism. We will come out, wear what we want, when we want, work, play, have a good time, own gadgets (!) and basically do everything the politicians think it’s their duty to tell us not to do. Do we ever tell men what to do or what not to do? Because I could write a book. So we will come out and outnumber the boys in any given workshop.”
After a quiet moment where Rathna Shekar seemed to register this information, he decided to not comment on any of this. He just looked ahead and with a poker face finished with a ‘I like girls.’
This being said, boys, where the hell are you? Come out of your houses, take workshops, have a little fun, you know what I’m saying? Because you’re welcome. Because no matter what, we still like you. At least at Samahaara, at least in our workshops. The plays we need to do have male characters…
Love,
A
