I almost have an uncontrollable urge to write about my experience in the Theatre workshop conducted by Rathna Shekar Reddy and Samahaara.
I divide this into two parts:
The Workshop
I turned 41 this February and my class of almost 20 would have averaged 26 maybe. The last i did theatre was in school and was referred to Samahaara by one of your alumni and lead actors Abhijeet Deshpande in a chance conversation. Boy, am i glad I got in!
Had no ideas as to how it would be, but it most definitely was above any and all notions I had before our first class.
The understanding of the why, what and how of Theatre; the systematic approach and exposure to all its critical aspects like physical fitness, belief in co-actors, reading plays, writing stories; the basic nuances of acting; the inclusive approach; the breaking of barriers; the serious amounts of fun and most importantly the life lessons – being empathetic, it being great that a person can cry and not hide his emotions, gender & other biases, the ills that afflict the World, the desire to make a difference, wow Shekhar, those were some really amazingly intelligent conversations!
The possibilities post the Workshop
A new World has opened up for me and i share some possibilities I have created out of it;
– Got new Friends, mostly much younger, wherein i get to learn so much about the new ways of life, so important for me and feel young all over again myself.
– Rekindle a passion, gain a foothold, feel fulfilled by remaining in some ways connected with the performing arts
– Open possibilities to collaborate on Productions by way of Script Writing, Acting or just ‘hanging about’
– Opportunity to build on and curate a passion, get a bigger reason in life, play big games, bring in a change in society…Oh Am I excited!
Thank you and i look forward to my continued collaborations with Samahaara.
