After a long time, we performed one of our most loved plays, Court Martial. It brings Samahaara founder Rathna Shekar back to stage after a hiatus caused somewhat by the pandemic but mainly by roles in films. The venue was Lamakaan and predictably the house was full, and some latecomers were sent away, with a promise of another performance (which we intend to keep, and soon).
There were many known faces in the audience, actors, directors and writers from various media. But it’s the young and the new, whose experience of perhaps a first time watching a play made the actors turn up the heat. Court Martial is about injustice, and it is a layered and nuanced play while being one of the most intense writings from India. Big bow to the late playwright Swadesh Deepak from Team Samahaara.
Thank you audience for the response, and we will come back with this play soon enough.
