Kanchan Agarwal: Being Samahaarian.

KANCHAN AGARWAL

“I’m a Samahaarian because I believe in team work and that the world needs theatre to understand its doings”

A graduate in Mass com. with Literature and Political Sciences, and now a feature writer with WOW Hyderabad, a popular local lifestyle magazine, Kanchan Agarwal sure is going places. But those are not the only feathers that the girl adorns in her hat. There is one more and that is of acting. Yes folks! She is a theatre actor having performed onstage and also in front of a camera.

The seed was sown when she went to watch her first live play performance by a Chennai based theatre group called Evam. And then the first nudge she received was when she spotted a poster calling for auditions for a play by Shoelace Productions, a few months down the line. That’s where she got an offer from Rathna Shekar Reddy who is the man behind Samahaara, to do a month long workshop on acting and the resultant production ‘The Last Wish Baby’. And that is how she made full blown entry into the world of acting. Now with a documentary for A P Tourism, a show for Door Darshan and a couple of theatre productions behind her, this chica loves acting for the rush it gives her.

A little known fact and a very surprising one at that about Kanchan is that she grew up without having made too many friends. And this led her to create her own imaginary world where she’d make up stories, enacting the various characters from it all by herself, though occasionally along with a friend of hers. And that game of role playing re-surfaced and helped her with the theatre experience. She absolutely loves performing on the stage as she gets to be so many different characters, each time she performs.

She recounts her experience with Samahaara as an amazing one and considers herself lucky to work with Rathna Shekar Reddy and the whole team. She was a part of the very first batch of Samahaara workshop and actors. She believes she has gained much from the man behind the idea & also that it was a complete experience as it was fun and humbling as an experience. On her part, she expresses that she will never forget the welcoming and encouraging atmosphere that Samahaara has provided for her and for all the other actors.
