My Experience with Samahaara – Sohini Mukherjee

Being someone who hardly heads out of the house, it is really hard for me to commit to anything be it a workshop or long term course. But the first day of the weekend theatre workshop was enough to tell me that this isn’t your everyday boring workshop where someone just yaps on and you jot down notes and the day is over after long hours of yawning. No, this is Samahaara. Here you are not only taught stuff but you are also asked to share your experience and tell others what you feel.

Meeting new people is a bit hard for me as I have social anxiety but being with my fellow classmates at the workshop, I was more at home than awkward. We discussed about worldly matters and bonded over similarities. Each and everyone of us discovered something new about each other as well as our own self. But this workshop was not just about meeting new people. The 3 month experience also made me learn a lot about theatre acting and performing live. The do’s and don’t’s of theatre and the way you have to put yourself out there to completely capture the audience is now an ‘almost’ well versed lesson. (Jk) I am grateful to Rathna Shekar sir for giving us this wonderful experience and making us a permanent part of Samahaara(our batch also has a badge for that ) and I’m a proud Samahaarian! Looking for more opportunities to showcase my talent now.

But one question is still unclear. What is my purpose in life? Maybe I should ponder upon it deeper.
